Dramatic day (puppies) Empty Dramatic day (puppies)

Post by Hayley Mon Apr 13, 2015 10:57 pm

So my aunty got a dog 8 months ago and had been told that her 6yo bitch could not have pups because of a hernia near her uterus making it tilted or something.

So today I delivered five healthy pups.

The bitch is doing very well and she was totally on it from the start but I did have to tell my aunty and cousin to go away for a while cause they kept running in and squealing every time they saw her move or saw the pup not near her and generally disturbing her and annoying her and she ended up taking the pup and trying to hide it.

Anyway with them gone she gave birth to the rest in peace and settled down to clean them up a bit more. Finally I changed the bedding and let mum have a pee and some water and check pups (all dogs, all complete and all well covered. One smaller one as always)

Of course as soon as she had them they were on the phone and had no less than about 8 people round the house and awwing and ahhing and touching them and I got annoyed again but it wasn't my house so I couldn't kick people out but bitch seems to have dealt with it well just kept curling her back and trying to hide them.

I left her just now in the den were I told them to let her be in peace in the dark and just let her say when she wants out and to NOT put her near the dog for two seconds (but of course she was let out immediately with him to pee) and they are the kind to be "Ak it will be fine" or "shut up its my dog"

The runt is less active and I gave them some lacto and bottles and told them to weigh all the pups and feed the runt but they want to wait until tomorrow I think they're too scared to feed and hope mum will do it all but I won't be able to see them again until Thursday so who knows what will happen.

Well done Hayley - superb midwife!

Hoping that Mummy dog gets some peace and quiet to get to know her pups and nurse them - you can only do your best Hayley and you've done brilliantly!

I was just glad they had latched and suckled before I left or I would have had to stay. They wouldn't have a clue how to feed and prob wouldn't be willing to get up every 2 hours. If runty isn't better by Thursday I may have to stay there for a while lol

I know you'll do your very best for this little family, Hayley, and hope that the humans give the Mum and pups the rest and peace they deserve.

Top girl, well done again!

Well done Hayley! I do hope they just leave mum & bubs alone to bond. If they let her have pups then they also took on the responsibility of feeding runty. I hope it goes well for him/her? Runty & mum & pups.

Aww, Hayley, you're a star!

I'm sure that with you pointing them in the right direction the pups will be fine. Are there any takers lined up?

As long as they're decent homes the pups will be fine - and your auntie can see how they're getting on!

Oh heck, so sorry to hear that. So often there is a pup who gets short-changed in the womb and is smaller and weaker than the others, and life once born is just too difficult. Rest in peace little whitey sad

Funny this is he was the biggest and fattest and the one who bullied the rest. I do wonder if mum got a bit angry at him.

Rest have doubled in size though and all doing well.

That's strange, it's usually the runt that suffers.

Good to hear the other pups are doing well though.
