Couple fined for running illegal dog breeding business

A couple have been fined and ordered to pay back more than £100,000 after they were caught running an illegal dog breeding business.
Keith Lunn, 64, and Jeanette Sonia Lunn, 60, were arrested after police and investigators from North West Leicestershire District Council discovered more than 40 dogs at the couple’s farm in November 2013.
Officers were concerned about the condition of the animals and that the breeding operation was not being run legitimately. They also uncovered large amounts of cash stashed in mugs, under mattresses and in boxes.
Last month Leicester Magistrates found them guilty of keeping a breeding establishment without a licence at their farm in Spring Cottage Road, Overseal, on the Leicestershire and Derbyshire border. They had pleaded not guilty. They were each fined £1,200 and ordered to pay the council’s legal costs of £6,384.
Last week the pair appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court and were ordered to pay back £101,340 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

No wonder some people do this when they can "make" £100K
Glad at least this pair have been shut down.

The problem is, there is only money to be made if it's not done properly

That's right. The 'proper', responsible breeders might make a couple of hundred pounds on a litter, but they also often lose money on it, especially if there are only a couple of pups - health tests aren't cheap!

Yes, which is why puppy farms/mills MUST be made illegal.

Re: Couple Fined For Illegal Dog Breeding
Exactly. You make money breeding dogs if you have no regard for producing superior pups. It's why it's so popular.
