Gripe 2 - Windows 10
Like everyone else using Microsoft, I have been continually badgered over several months with pop-ups urging me to upgrade to Windows 10. For many reasons, I don't want to, and have always clicked on the x at the top right of the screen (the universally accepted way of closing the communication).
Unbeknownst to me, and doubtless many other people, Microsoft developed the ingenious but extremely devious idea of converting this x into an accept mode. So tonight I suddenly found all my systems shut down whilst Windows 10 was being installed! When it became apparent that no cancel facility was going to be available, I did a "Glasgow reboot" (ie switching off at the mains) and for now at least I am still on Windows 7. It's not perfect by any means but I understand most of it, and have NO wish to be hornswoggled by Microsoft into accepting their newest brainchild by their duplicitous practices.
Any comments, anyone?

Yes, they are devious so-and-sos. The message subtly changed, but of course, like you everyone was used to closing the box, so didn't read it. You can reset to your previous version if you need to.

Thanks Lorraine, I may have to reset but I shouldn't be put in this situation.
At the moment, I have a pop-up "Your upgrade is ready to install". Can I get rid of it? No. The two options are "start the upgrade now" or "schedule it for later". I don't want to click on the latter because it implies that I want it "later".
I am very, very cross with Microsoft.

I think I clicked on the 'schedule it for later' option, and then there was an option (in really small letters at the bottom) that allowed you to stop the upgrade. I was lucky that a friend had had the misfortune of it upgrading her laptop, otherwise, I would never have noticed!

So many people have said exactly the same as you Lynda! It's very underhand!

Thank you for your tip Lorraine. When I get pestered again (and I know I will) I will bite the bullet and follow your tip.

You can!
I had a look on the Window 10 upgrade site. It says that you can restore your previous version by going to
settings>updates and security>recovery
Is that possible for you?
This has worked for a friend of mine.

I think it has a time-scale it needs to be done by, but it worked for Denise.

This is very useful Lorraine, and thank you. Microsoft seem to have given up on me (hooray) since I baulked their previous attempts at force, but you never know when such advice may be useful.
