Wanting to better Abby's diet
Every since I adopted abby from the pound a little over 3 years ago she has been pretty spoilt but I'm now thinking maybe her diet could be a little better.
Currently she is having 2 meals a day and s bowl of dry food though the day
For breakfast she has 3 wheat bix, lactose free milk and 100g of raw pet mince
Then for dinner she has grated carrot, pet mince, zucchini and usually half a potato all cooked mixed with a tin of wet food.
After some ideas to add more variation to her diet and some healthier options

Re: Wanting to better Abby's diet
To start with, I'd cut out the wheat box. Wheat isn't very good for dogs & is the cause of a lot of allergies & skin issues.
I'd also cut her down to 2 meals a day & don't leave food down throughout the day, it encourages overeating & can lead to fussiness.
Have you thought about a completely raw diet? Have read through ella's thread about it (one of the sticky threads at the top of the feeding forum). It's a great way to feed your dog, although it doesn't suit everyone.

Oh ok defiantly going to stop that immediately then. I had no idea wheat was bad for dogs.
Ok will only give her 2 meals a day
She is kind of fussy when it comes to meats but I have has a quick read of Ella's thread and think I might give it a try and see what she likes.
Is raw chicken/chicken bones ok to feed her as I know she likes cooked chicken.
Looks like a trip to the butcher is needed to get some liver and heart

Raw bones are fine, but you should never give cooked bones of any sort - not even the ones you can buy in the pet stores! They can splinter & cause terrible internal problems.
When you start off, try giving frozen chicken wings & maybe hold on to the end to encourage her to chew rather than swallow whole! She'll soon get the hang of it.
If you have any problems at all, just start up a new thread for the attention of Ella - she's very knowledgeable on raw feeding!

I agree with what's been said above ^^^
If you want to attempt a raw diet, Ella's been feeding it for a long time and knows a lot about it, so I'm sure she wouldn't mind you picking her brains about it!

Re: Wanting to better Abby's diet
I think it is pretty gross but she loved it
Yesterday I gave her lamb, lambs brain and liver and kidney along with some other cuts of lamb some with bone and some with out. And a leg bone to chew on.
Today is beef and pork this morning she had heart, a pig trotter and some other cuts
Went and brought her, her own frige freezer this morning for all her meat the will arrive this afternoon
