Dempsey's back-to-basics training
Decided to go back to the basics in his training, as he's picked up some bad habits. Recall, for instance! You'll have to call him about twenty times, while he just stands there staring at you until he decides to come.
Did some close-range recall just now, followed by some wait training.
The recall was reasonable, considering his bad habits! Used the method from the recall thread with treats. Gave him a couple to pique his interest, which worked, as he's extremely orally fixated.
Got him to stay, then walked a few metres away and called him. He won't do it yet if I'm out of sight, but that's a goal we can work towards! A small problem in as much as he'll only come when called if he can actually see the treat, but again, that's something that can be overcome with time and training.
I was quite surprised with the wait training. He loves food and usually won't hesitate to gobble it up, but I was putting a treat on the floor and telling him to wait... and he actually did it! Reluctantly, of course, but he did it! The first couple of times, I had to put my hand in between his head and the treat to stop him gobbling it up, but he was actually doing quite well after a while.
Progress!

Slow but steady - that's the key!
He'll get there. I'm the first to admit I've let his training go a bit lately!

It's not always easy for you to make time though (busy bee!), and I've got a lot of it at the moment so it's all fine!
