Well that only makes matter worse doesn't it.
The most heartbreaking thing I ever heard was many years ago when I had my dobies. Dobies have a special friendly smile - their teeth are close together with the top lip relaxed and exposing the teeth - very much like this
And an ignorant bar-steward came home to his puppy greeting him with this smile - and thrashed him. It still breaks my heart, as much as it must have broken his puppy's heart.

That's awful! If he'd have done the slightest bit of research into his dog, he would have known it wasn't aggression! Dalmatians do it as well and it's totally adorable!
