Mum - Bad news and Good news
Bad news: Vacuum cleaner won't work.
Good news: The missing contact lens hasn't been sucked up yet, so there's still a chance to find it!

I've had a look round the kitchen and passage and haven't been able to find it. It's a shame there's no such thing as a contact lens magnet...

Well, if the vacuum cleaner worked, one way of finding a contact lens is sealing a bit of nylon tights over the tube and inspecting it at intervals.
I once found a missing lens embedded in the sole of my slipper, but they were built tougher in those days.
Wishing you good luck ....

Sadly, the vacuum cleaner has been very finicky recently.
The missing lens is a hard contact lens, like they used to make! Hopefully it's robust enough to survive!

I hope so Eleanor. I use hard (well, gas permeable these days) lenses and have done for 50 years. But they are made thinner these days (although thankfully also cheaper) so are less likely to survive being trodden on; indeed a few have splintered between my fingers as I carefully cleaned them.
I've lost most lenses down the plughole!

Dad's are gas permeable as well. But he's really clumsy with them & often drops them, but he spreads a tea towel over the table so they won't bounce.
But this morning he thought that the left one just wasn't sitting properly on his eye, so he didn't check to make sure it was actually there for about 10 minutes. It could be almost anywhere in the house!

I was also going to suggest a stocking over the end of the hose. It works! We did it if some nuff nuff dropped a tray of diamonds.

A tray of diamonds? Yikes!
If the vacuum cleaner ever gets working again, hopefully we can do that!

Yes. I ran a manufacturing jewelllers. Over the yrs we had many trays of different gems dropped. The non coloured were always the hardest to find.
Lyndah is spot on! You will find a lens in the panty hose over a vac.

Ohh, that makes sense! I wasn't sure if you were a jewel thief or just somebody with expensive taste!
Fingers crossed, it'll work! Hopefully the lens hasn't bounced off into some tiny corner!

Re: Mum - Bad news and Good news
Well, they do bounce. When I have been lucky enough to find a dropped lens more often than not it was by getting (carefully) down onto my hands and knees and squinting along the floor for the little flash of reflection (sometimes a light held in different directions helps).
Another idea, if you have the patience, is sticky tape (Sellotape). Gently press a piece over an area of carpet and with luck it will pick it up.
Once again - good luck!

I'll pass it onto mum - her job! Thanks!
I still have to uphold my reputation as a lazy teenager for as long as possible, even if I'm not.
