My tears are exhausted now... red eyed & with a heavy heart.

Spok was a very much loved 1st dog to his dad. Dad is numb for now. Tomorrow will be worse for him. His wife is distraught for both spoky & her hubby & teens. Their daughter will not come out of her room & their son is trying to act as if nothing has happened.

Spok was not good with other dogs but went camping, out on the boat, walkies to meet the kids after school.

He had a cradle mattress as he had gotten old & needed support so his hips rested well. He had a specialized diet to help his kidney failure.  Ultimately, his heart gave out. He had been at the vets last night. They wanted to keep him for tests, observation, etc. His dad said no! Enough! He is coming home to be where he loves. Spok was on the edge & his dad knew it. He went home to be with his family, not in a clinic. Today... he dropped... the kids let him out to go to the toilet....spok couldn't  get up, his dad carried him inside, enough...

The vet was called to the house & Spok went to sleep.

Sweet dreams my love. XXX
You will be dearly missed. We all love you babe.

My thoughts are with Spok's family, as well as you - I know how much you loved him. hug

I hope you all can take some comfort from the fact that he passed away at home, comfortable, with the people he loved.

Thanks. I know they are glad he passed away in his home instead of the clinic.  I would be to but... loosing a family member....

I can't believe he wont bowl me over, lick my face,  grumble, grunt, bark, & turn his ass for a scratch ever again.

Spok's family are the most beautiful people I have, or probably will ever meet.

My heart is with them. hug

I know it hurts a lot now, but in time you'll be able to reflect on the fond memories you had with him with a smile hug

I don't believe they're ever gone, as such. I believe there's a place for every dog, the same as I believe there is for humans. hug

I'm so sorry to hear this Tracy - my heart goes out to you all.

I know it's trite to say at least he went peacefully, at home and with his loved ones around him, but it is something to be glad of.

The worst part I've found about losing a dog is waking up the next morning, realising the dog is not there and remembering, and the pain hits again afresh. But that and tears must be gone through to start acceptance and the healing process.

Rest in Peace Spok

You are right Lynda. Its not trite. I agree wholeheartedly.  The pain this morning is just not something they have felt before. Thank you.  hug

I am so pleased that he passed at home with his family around him, peacefully & not in a cold sterile clinic with people he didn't know.

Its hit them badly this morning.  He was, for all of them, not only a family member, Spok was treated just as you would a child. Except Spoky got more pats than the kids. Hehehe. But, Spok was their 1st dog. They have not experienced loosing a dog before. The void of Spok not running & grunting for his breakfast. The realization that he is gone. Mum & dad took him walkies every morn after the kids went to school & before dad went to work.

I was going to go visit them last night but.... I didnt want any visitors when I lost boofa so I said to Spok's mum, we'll come over on the weekend.

I called this morn. It has hit home. hug  Spok is still at home & will be cremated on friday. His dad is going to be with him to ensure his safe passage & return to his family. Its going to be a rough day for Spok's dad & mum.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts at this tragic time. hug

There's a little story about Rainbow Bridge for dogs. I don't know if it could help you at all, but I think it's lovely.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...."

We didn't get to see them. They have their parents down from QLD so I didn't want to intrude & due to the stress (I think) they all have the flu. We will see them soon.

You've never had the flu? (Influenza)  How is that possible?  You live in a cold country.
Wow.... you are the luckiest person alive!

I bet that'll be a relief for them!

The cold kills off the nasty bugs!

Flu isn't as common as people think - most people who say they've had the flu have just had a nasty cold. Once you've actually had the flu, you'll never mistake it for anything else! sad

I must admit that even at my great age, I have only ever had real 'flu about 3 times in my life. Colds yes, by the squillion, and a lot people (men especially! happy ) think that a cold is 'flu, but believe me your actual 'flu is totally incapacitating - no way can you travel, it's hard enough getting to the loo from your bed!

'Flu or cold, I hope your folks get better very quickly - these things are always worse when you are "down", as they inevitably are. hug s to all

There is no mistake. Colds make you feel like crap. A flu makes your every bone & joint hurt. Your happy if you dont need to actually breath. & brain ache....ohhhh.

As for men.....

Is a paper cut not a major life threatening loss of blood?
