That is just terrible - poor, poor dogs. And that the cause of the fire is "suspicious" is horrendous.

I've just seen this too. I'm glad they got him, but I feel despair that someone, "lad" or not, should think it such a great idea to set fire to a dogs' home and kill so many dogs. He is a sicko and words can't describe how much hate I feel towards him.

There has got to be something seriously wrong with someone to set a home for dogs a light knowing the dogs can't get out
A light amongst all the tragic news

This is awful. Those poor dogs, and the poor people who work there - they're going to be distraught!

What an awful tragedy... You're right; it is nice that those lovely people tried so hard to help.
I also find it tragic that it might have been a 17-year-old. What could have possibly filled him with so much hatred, at that age, to make him do something like that?

Terrible news. The Just Giving page is doing well. The 14-year-old should have been made to watch the rescue efforts.

They've raised more than £450,000! Really does restore your faith, doesn't it?
Story's details have changed again. Apparently the suspect is 15. I'm still completely flabbergasted that anybody could do something like this, though.

Re: Manchester dog home on fire
For a 14/15 year old to do something like that must surely indicate that he has some sort of mental health issues?

That's possible; it's also possible he didn't realise how quickly the fire would take hold, has no parental control, no prospects and was bored. I hope he regrets his actions - otherwise there's no hope for him.

So touching, how tragedy can bring people together.
If it turns out that the suspect is guilty, I hope he gets some manner of rehabilitation. He has his whole life ahead of him and I dread to think of what state of mind he must have been in, in order to do such a thing.

You're a bigger man than I am Eleanor. I'm afraid I have no sympathy for the thug who did this - my heart is bleeding too much for the 60 dogs who died horrible deaths.

Re: Manchester dog home on fire
Don't get me wrong - I feel far worse for the poor dogs. My sympathy for the culprit would only come if it turns out that he is, in some way, mentally disturbed. I would still sympathise if he'd had a bad upbringing, but that wouldn't be any excuse for what he did.

Re: Manchester dog home on fire
Ah. Apparently, the suspect had been attacked by one of the dogs. If that's the only reason he had for setting fire to the shelter... Words fail me.

Oh, my heart's breaking! Just seen a picture of three of the saved dogs, in their kennels. One of them is a Bull Terrier. I really wish I could help out with an adoption.

I wonder how the culprit will be punished... I doubt he or his family will be able to remain in that area, no matter what happens.

unfair that his family should suffer but you can bet your life he will not get what he deserves and more than likely if he is run out of town , somewhere along the line us taxpayers will foot the bill to make sure he comes to no harm
