I've been bitten by so many animals today!

They hate me!

Was working with chinchillas and degus today, which was a lot of fun. Every single one of the ones I picked up took a nibble of me! I must have had a strange scent on me, as even some of the ones running around came up and started nibbling!

And I only just realised that one of the degus actually broke the skin. It was very dark in their enclosure, as the lighting is on a timer, so that it's dark during the day and light during the night. Better for nocturnal animals, as we don't end up disturbing them while they sleep. But it meant I didn't realise he'd broken the skin until I got home and it just now started hurting!

On the plus side, I had a very nice pub meal and a half pint of cider for lunch!

Degus don't normaly bite unless frightened. Was something different today to them?

All animals will bite if they have teeth!

Just a normal day to them, but wild behaviour is encouraged, so only technicians and HE students handle them. He didn't want to be health checked, so he bit. Not hard enough to really do damage, but hard enough to get the message across. The others were just 'test' bites, as all rodents do.

Maybe your aura was off today or you and rodents don't mesh?

Tbh, I think it was just their normal behaviour, but I was the one sitting down at their level

I have a thing with white horses. They always want to bite or kick me for absolutely no reason. It baffles my mind.

That reminds me of my daughters russian dwarf hamsters years ago, jeeez, I had to mentally prepare myself for the bites every day

Didn't get bitten by any of the reptiles today, so all's good on this front! Had a rough game with a ferret on Monday, though, who got very play-bitey

Ever since I saw a hamster eat her own childs head I haven't liked them.

They're deceptively innocent.

Not quite the sweet innocent little fluff balls that they look!

I read that when a hamster has babies you should not disturb her and the babies till they're old enough to wean. Even cleaning the cage or simply walking by can cause them to want to 'save the babies' a.k.a turning cannibalistic.

I've heard that, but never seen or experienced it first-hand. I read similar accounts when I was reading up on hedgehogs!

High maintenance much?
