Molly has been bitten.
She was found drooling & agressive. She was going to attack her human dad in a corner. (Something is not roght....Molly is the sweetest little mini schnauzer... my mums dog.)
Mum got a towel, bite me if you want to but, you are going to the vet right now. It looked like a snake bite again.
Turned out, after bloods, it was not venomous. It looks like a blue tounge bit her.
All was well 5 hrs after.
I thought bad things came in three's not thirties?

Glad all is well now - it must've been a scary five hours, especially in light of recent events.

Re: Molly has been bitten.
Yes, it was. I was so scared another snake had struck.
The vet said, its a blue tounge bite.
& I must say... I never thought a blue tounge could do that. Not that quickly. Though their mouths are full of germs that can cause infection in the preceding days, I didnt think it would affect a dog this way.
Just glad to know Molly... "the Mole" is ok now.

Re: Molly has been bitten.
Well thank heavens for that, Molly is OK now. But what a fright for you all.
I had to look up "blue tongue", they are apparently a skink that is fond of dog food, which may be where the trouble began?

Re: Molly has been bitten.
Sorry Lynda, I should have explained. I forget they are aussies that not everyone has or knows.
Heres a pic for you all so you know what I'm talking about.
I used to have one as a pet. His name was cossie. Kids catch them here to keep as pets. They are quite docile, not normally aggressive & normally run away but they do bite if scared. Their bite is quite hard but they don't draw blood often. We actually like to have them in the yard as their favorite meal is snails & slugs.
I think one bit Molly & she just completely freaked out. (I have been bitten by one before & it freaking well hurts for ages.) Drooling & attacking out of sheer fear. But mum didn't see one bite her so off to the vet as it could have been anything that bit her & her reaction was completely over the top for a blue tongue bite.
My step dad did find one there the next day when he fed the birds so I'm guessing the vet was spot on.
They are large chunky lizards. About 25-30 cm. Though they are a skink they are "far" bigger than what we think of as a skink. (What we typically use "skink" for are fast, tiny lizards, 5cm, that the kids can't catch for hrs.) They do like dog food, they also like most fruits & bread. Mashed or old brown soggy banana is a banquet for a blue tongue.
My step dad puts out old bread for the birds in a head height bird feeder. The birds sometimes drop pieces to the ground. It must have come for a free feed. Molly also likes to eat up the scraps. It seems it got her by surprise as she normally jumps back & barks till mum comes & puts it in the parkland over the back from her. Seems tjis time Molly got too close.
For those that would like some blue tounge info...

P.s. If I saw a 50cm blue tongue I'd be calling the Guinness book of world records!

Re: Molly has been bitten.
Molly is perfectly fine. Seems she always was, she just freaked out when it bit her, & it does hurt! Maybe she will keep her snozza & tootsies out of it in the future.
Thank god, The little mole is just fine. Thanks for asking.
