Can Dogs See Colour?
Interesting! I like that they have colour charts showing human vs canine colour vision.
Now imagine what we would see if we had 6 cones like most birds do?

Re: Can Dogs See Colour?
I did an assignment on comparative colour vision, using dogs, humans and birds as examples. It was a lot of fun! I included visual examples of the colour vision of each animal - same picture, different colours. Though I was of the opinion that birds have four single cones and a double cone, rather than six, and see five spectral bands. Do you have any links to information about them having six cones? I had a look just now, but couldn't find anything. Or have I just completely missed your point and were you referring to the double cone as the extra two?
There are videos/images that you can find online to see from 'the eye of a bird'. It's quite bizarre! I'd love to be able to have vision like some birds!

Eleanor, i would LOVE to see that picture and the others???
As for dogs seeing colour, of course they do. I never though they didn't. Lexi particularly loves pink, so i don't believe that chart either!

Here are a few:
Basic trichromatic (blue, greens and reds), dichromatic (blues and greens) and monochromatic (no colour) views, in that order:
Dog colour vision:
Bird colour vision:
Video simulators:
- entertaining, shows the range of colour vision, as well as distortion
- a lot more informative, but maybe not as entertaining/easy to follow
- same as above, but in primates
- bit of a mix - a fair amount of dialogue, but some examples of colour vision
- very informative - dogs
Who wouldn't want to have the vision of a bird of prey?
