Crufts lecture
We went to 'The truth about wolves and dogs' lecture yesterday and it was really good! I was looking forward to it anyway, but I had no idea it would be so interesting and informative!
I had to save my seat, then run off to the toilet right at the beginning though. By the time I got back, they'd closed the door and I had to beg them to let me back in.

My only complaint was that you weren't given notes at the end with links to the various studies used. I didn't take notes for 2 reasons - one, I didn't have paper & two, I didn't want to miss any of the lecture itself.

You may be able to e-mail and request them. I have been put on a list for the notes from two of the lectures I went to. Otherwise, I could lend you my book that she wrote on the same subject if you let me have your address.

I've ordered the book. The last lecture I went to supplied notes on the way out. I suppose I just expected the same.

Yeah, I'm going to send an email to ask!
I noticed on Facebook that you didn't think much of your last lecture, Lorraine! What happened?

Re: Crufts lecture
It wasn't the last lecture (that was very good), but the second to last. They introduced the topic by explaining how dogs evolved from wolves and how studying captured wolves was the wrong thing to do, but we should compare our pet dogs with wild wolves, and therefore treat them as such. A lot of nonsense about dominance theory and how the word had been taken out of context, and I heard on more than one occasion the phrase repeated, "There's a lot of studies out there showing such and such, but we don't believe that"!
They were amateurish, badly prepared and just plain wrong on so many levels.

Oh dear! The exact opposite of the lecture we went to, then! I'm glad I didn't go to that one now.
Did the other people at the lecture share your views about it?

Re: Crufts lecture
Certainly the people sat behind me did - I could hear their moaning all the way through! There were some straight faces in the audience, but some were lapping up every word - that is annoying, since the myth then perpetuates.

Oh dear. I'm actually a bit surprised that they were allowed to do that lecture. I know a lot of it is down to personal opinion re: training methods, but to be spouting off completely inaccurate 'facts' isn't really something you'd expect from a lecture at Crufts!

Quite! I looked up the trainers, and they supposedly had all manner of qualifications - makes me quite wary of some of the courses out there.

Seems like no amount of education can teach common sense.

Sadly, the two are often inversely proportional.

As much as I dislike speaking ill of classmates, there are few like that on my course! Hearts are in the right places, but no common sense! They'll read something in a book or watch something on TV (Cesar Millan) and BOOM! Automatically makes them a training expert.

Or think that, that is the ONLY correct way. There is so much misinformation in the world and opinions and proof change all the time.
One day you should eat loads of egg and avo next you're going to die because you ate to much ... it can drive you insane! Well it sometimes tries to drive me to insanity

I'm all for reading up on new theories, but I think a lot of them have to be taken with a pinch of salt until proper research has been done.
