Tired, grumpy and ready to kill!
For the past couple of months, I've kept hearing a loud scuffling noise on my bedroom roof during the night - really loud. I thought it might be rats at first, but it was too heavy, so then I thought perhaps it was an owl. Nope! One night, it was accompanied by frisky cat noises. It stopped for a week or so when it was raining during then nights, but then it started back up a few nights ago!
The day before yesterday, I opened my window in the morning to the most horrific smell of cat spray I've ever smelled! For the past few nights, cats have been scuffling around on top of my bedroom roof, fighting, mating and jumping about. I have a balcony-type thing outside my bedroom, so they're constantly jumping up and down from my bedroom roof to the balcony, banging on the window each time. I haven't had more than five hours of sleep each night!
My thoughts are that somebody has gotten a new cat, almost certainly sexually in-tact by the sounds and smell, and possibly a Siamese by the noise it makes. And apparently it's decided that my roof is its prime territory.
I'm going to search around for a cat repellent of some sort, but I'd sooner lose sleep than hurt them, so hopefully I can find something suitable.

Tbh, I'm not upset about the cats themselves. Yes, they're being a pain in the neck, but I'm more annoyed at the owners. With a roaming animal, I think owners should neuter them. People bang on and on about unwanted dog litters, but it's just as bad (if not worse) with cats. The fighting and roaming isn't particularly nice either! Not saying that refusing to neuter cats makes somebody an irresponsible owner; just what I would personally do.

So many litters of cats are drowned by the owners.

Cats are so annoying! I have about 4 or 5 feral ones banging about chasing my cats and fighting them and i can't get rid of them! The local cats protection won't do anything either >:O

And they wonder why people leave poison-laced meat around. It's disgusting and plain nasty, but all of it could be prevented if people would just take it seriously. Cats can do a hell of a lot of damage in fights.
Not looking forward to the summer now. How am I going to open my bedroom window if cats are spraying up against my windowsill?

They do stink don't they. One came and sprayed on my horse rug the pig! Mine were chopped before they could walk so no spraying from them.

They pong to the heavens! I don't mind working with stinky animals in the slightest, but my bedroom is a place I would preferably like to remain a relatively stank-free zone!

How about those water bottle things you see grannys putting in their begonias? Do they work?

Re: Tired, grumpy and ready to kill!
Oh dear, cats. I do like them, but they are allowed to get away with much more than our dogs are because "it is a truth universally acknowledged" that cats must be allowed to roam where they will, because that is how cats are.
I do get annoyed when they poo in my garden, run across the road in front of my car, spray on whatever they see fit, and howl and scream when they are in an amorous mood (which is always in the dead of night). Siamese are arguably the most beautiful of cats but the noise they make is horrendous.
I do agree that if pet cats are allowed to wander wherever and when they like, they should be neutered - that would alleviate at least some of the bother.
I wish you good luck in your search for a cat repellent Eleanor and that you can get a good night's sleep without unwanted pongs. Lion's dung is supposed to be good!

I'd have to get right up to the top of my roof to do it, which would be extremely difficult, as the balcony area under my window isn't fenced. I'm looking up some oil-combo sprays that might work to deter them around the window, though.

Agreed! They can be a real pain! I'll happily stop and stroke a cat in the street, but they can be real pests! And yes, Siamese are gorgeous little banshees!
Drown out the scent of cat smell with even bigger cat smell!

Um......
Oh, all right. Just something they don't like the smell/taste of, then.

I've not heard too much of them for the past few nights, so hopefully they've gone somewhere else!
