'Give me space' Vests
First topic message reminder :
A little while ago Eleanor put up a link in polls/debates about some gadgets & one of the things mentioned was a dog vest with "Give me space" on it. Well, as Dempsey's a little unsociable ( ) I thought I'd try one. It arrived today & I'm quite pleased with it! It's a little loose around the girth, but I expected that because the next size down would have been too small. I can probably alter that, though. But the quality's quite good, and the writing is clear & stands out well. Anyway, here's Dempsey modelling a snazzy little orange number...

It's amazing. Before I had the vest for Dempsey I was pestered by the "It's ok my dog's friendly" brigade. Since I've had him wearing it, we've hardly seen anyone!
I still don't know if it really works!

Re: 'Give me space' Vests
Took Dempsey out a bit earlier today than I normally do and forgot to put his vest on - bad mistake.
The park today was full of the pack-walk-stand-around-gossiping-"it's-all-right-he/she's-friendly-love" brigade!!!!!
Bugger! Missed a real opportunity to see if people take notice!

Re: 'Give me space' Vests
Good morning this morning! Went out at 7:30 & there were quite a few people in the park.
Two ladies with 4 spaniels looked up, saw the vest, gathered their dogs & went the other way - but instead of filthy looks I got a wave & a smile!
Another lady put her dog on the lead, left him with her husband & came over. I though "here we go " but she just wanted to know where I got the vest from cause her own dog is a bit reactive.
So, it does work! Maybe not with everyone (you can please some of the people all of the time & all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time!), but if it works with just a few I'll be more than happy with it!

Sounds really positive If it makes even a few people think and leash their dogs instead of letting them run over it can only be a good thing

Well, I'll keep using it, and hopefully it'll let people know that Dempsey's not to be tangled with!

Re: 'Give me space' Vests
Not so good this morning!
Man with weimeraner (never seen him before) talking on the phone, dog running riot! "Would you take your dog away, please? Mine doesn't always like other dogs" says I.
"Huh?" mumbles man.
"Take your dog away, mine doesn't like other dogs!" says I again, a bit irritable by now & Dempsey standing stiff with his ears & tail rigid.
"Looks alright to me!" says idiot.
"Can't you see the vest?" getting more & more peed off by now, "Ok, then - I'll let him off the lead, shall I?"
"Vest? Oh, didn't see that" (duh!) "I'll put mine on his lead, shall I?"
Bloody hell!

I don't suppose Weimeraner man even knew Dempsey was there until you called his attention to him.
This is what happens with the mobile phone generation, they are so busy chatting or texting (constantly - what do they find to talk about all the time?) that they are completely unaware of what is happening around them. It's not confined to dogs either - only the other day I was backing out of my drive when a toddler not more than 3 years old came speeding along the footpath on his scooter. The sensible little boy stopped, but I waved him on. Behind him trailed his mum, pushing a baby in a buggy and busily texting on her mobile, COMPLETELY oblivious to everything else

Re: 'Give me space' Vests
Times and situations change, don't they. tbh I had a LOT more freedom in my formative years than children generally have these days, but they were spent in a small rural village. I'll admit I was stunned a few years ago when visiting this same village, whilst talking with a new acquaintance and incomer to the village she excused herself saying she had to collect her children from the local primary school, which was literally just across the street and round the corner. Now when I attended that school we all walked home by ourselves. But with the increased traffic through the village anyway, and all the parents picking up their children in cars, I could see why she wanted to walk her children home. Very sad.
But I digress (as usual!)
