Baby rabbit on the road
Driving to the forest to walk the mutts and i saw a baby rabbit crawling across the road, so had to stop and pick it up. Poor thing has a big gash on the shoulder and a mark on the bum, and was clearly lifted by a buzzard. I got out and walked to it and it turned and ran towards me brought it home and have put it in a cat carrier in a santa hat with some food and water, if its even old enough to have that. Called the wildlife centre but its closed now!
Don't think it will survive but keep fingers crossed for the little mite.

Poor little thing.
At least it'll be warm & safe even if it doesn't survive. And if it does - then well done you!

I think most of us try to do our utmost when confronted with a wild animal in trouble, even though the odds are stacked against us.
Good luck baby bunny.

Bunny still alive. Put up a good fight this morning when I took it out to treat the wound and try and give some water. Put it on the grass for a while but it didn't eat but gonna try again later. Hope I didn't make it take it's last fight this morning

Poor little guy!
All you can do is your best, Hayley! With any luck, the rabbit will pull right through and be munching away on grass in no time!

Bought some antibiotic powder. Seems perky again so I'm just hoping it's eating such mini amounts that I can't tell lol

By the way, in relation to the water drinking: Wild rabbits don't drink water. They retrieve their moisture from grass and will consume their own faeces once over to get the nutrients. So make sure the little guy has access to grass!

Re: Baby rabbit on the road
Yeah i have been picking fresh grass for him but he isn't eating it and its all very dry. So i have had to use a dropper and give him water a few times a day which is working, he is sipping in a few drop at a time. I'm just hoping that im not putting it up his nose cause i have to nudge his mouth open or he won't take any and rabbits have weird noses. Gave him some bite size bits of carrot so i hope he can get some water from there too. Injury looks well though, i'm using botanica on it. Need to give it a good saline clean and put the antibac powder on for a while, but it isn't the injury that will kill this little one it will be the lack of nourishment think it is too young, maybe out for the very first time and not sure of grass. Has its little teeth but just dunno.

If the little guy isn't old enough for solids yet, you can try using puppy formula twice per day, in the early morning and evening. He does look a bit young.
Are his ears up yet? If they can stay erect on their own, he should be at an age where he's able to nibble grass. Also, is the fur slicked back against the body or is it fluffed up?
The more I look at the picture, the more I think he's probably not fully weaned yet.

Not totally erect yet no but he is definitely fluffy. I have a friend with some puppy formula I'll ask for a scoop lol

Sounds like he's probably on a mixed diet at the moment then - nibbles of vegetation and some milk. Good luck to him!

Re: Baby rabbit on the road
Got some wiskas cat milk, i haven't got a clue where to get puppy formula and my friend suggested it cause it is in the shop next to me. He nearly ate the syringe to get it bless the little poppet. Have him under the heat lamp now cause the silly thing got all wet (i left some water in just in case...) he seems to have perked up in the last 5 mins since the milk!

Bless him! The kitten milk should be okay. If there's anywhere around you that sells it, you can also try mixing it in with some probiotics!

Re: Baby rabbit on the road
Their natural feeding times are usually once in the morning and once in the evening, for about five minutes each. Just enough so that his little belly is full, but still squidgy and not hard. I'd start off with about 14/15 ml of the formula and judge from there.
You can avoid gas build up by holding the little guy in a sitting up position. It's a lot easier to coax the appetite by warming the milk slightly as well, but I daresay you've done that already.

Agreed! Sounds like he's really perked up!
Don't blame you for getting attached either! They're very sweet animals.
