First topic message reminder :

Driving to the forest to walk the mutts and i saw a baby rabbit crawling across the road, so had to stop and pick it up. Poor thing has a big gash on the shoulder and a mark on the bum, and was clearly lifted by a buzzard. I got out and walked to it and it turned and ran towards me  broken heart brought it home and have put it in a cat carrier in a santa hat with some food and water, if its even old enough to have that. Called the wildlife centre but its closed now!

Don't think it will survive sad but keep fingers crossed for the little mite.

Bunny not fussed on milk tonight. Took 1.5ml and no more but munched some pellets and pear. Loves pear but I'm trying not to give too much. Poos look nice and solid and pees like a trooper. Saw it munching in bed before which is a new thing so tryin not to worry about lack of milk. Will try again later. Weight 130 before feed.

Going to change routine as it only focuses on cleaning after flushing so will flush inbetween feeds.

Think it's a girl.

The lack of interest in milk is almost certainly nothing to worry about. Within the next couple of weeks (s)he will take more of an interest in vegetation! No more formula searching! happy

Weight 131g this morning and greedily had 5-6cc happy Think it likes three feeds better than four. Not sure if i should drop down again to three so its taking more in one sitting or stick with the four smaller ones to gain weight.

laughing he must be more relaxed now. He's coming on great. You'll be able to set up your own bunny rescue after this happy

Brought bunny some cucumber home from work at lunch. When i got home home there was a poo about the size of bunny and he had went to 127g! Drank loads of milk though but had only had 1ml at lunch. Still seems bright and active though. Going to get probiotic tomorrow. Just wish it would eat grass now, won't touch it! No more cucumber, and i'm going to have to try and get it eating grass and hay. Any tips?

You could try spraying the grass with water? Or maybe milk?

You could try looking for different hay samples - small sections, so you don't have to fork out too much money - to see which one the little guy prefers. He's probably just being fussy!

You can also finely chop a small amount of safe vegetables and mix it in with the grass.

How are the little guy's teeth? Are they healthy?

Yes nice white pearlys. Eats the pellets and other stuff just never grass or hay. I have sheds full of hay, i won't be buying store bought! lol

Will try adding chopped grass to some pear, but i know it won't eat it, just refuses to eat grass.

That's good! happy Has the vet checked them then, for points or small, jagged edges? Doesn't sound like anything to do with the feeding problem, though.

Tbh, I'd stick it out with grass for now. As a wild rabbit, he's only ever gotten used to grass and not hay. It might take some time, but weaning isn't always easy. sad

That's a good idea. happy being surrounded by grass is likely to stimulate the appetite.

Oh Bunny! You have us panicking every second day. If it dies I'll be annoyed because you've been trying so hard.
Might she not have been a bit constipated? Maybe she was active during the night and just tired now?

If he passed a lot of faeces, it could be that. Weight loss in terms of fat wouldn't have been that drastic overnight. happy It would have occurred steadily over a few days.

Just a thought. Have you been giving probiotics? They're very important for the gut when you're trying to wean a rabbit, as it keeps the bacteria in the colon balanced and prevents problems.
