Baby rabbit on the road - Page 8 Empty Baby rabbit on the road

Post by Hayley Mon May 26, 2014 7:55 pm

First topic message reminder :

Driving to the forest to walk the mutts and i saw a baby rabbit crawling across the road, so had to stop and pick it up. Poor thing has a big gash on the shoulder and a mark on the bum, and was clearly lifted by a buzzard. I got out and walked to it and it turned and ran towards me  broken heart brought it home and have put it in a cat carrier in a santa hat with some food and water, if its even old enough to have that. Called the wildlife centre but its closed now!

Don't think it will survive sad but keep fingers crossed for the little mite.

Still hanging in there. I'm offering fluids hourly now. I've avoided naming because i didn't want to name an animal that wasn't going to live but bunny has fought so hard i think it deserves a name. I'm nearly 100% sure it is female, so i am naming her Bellatrix. It means "female warrior" in latin and little Bellatrix is definitely a warrior.

Has just ate a few pellets of her own accord. I think the anti-biotics are messing with her system, making her very dehydrated.

The probiotics should help a lot with that. Hopefully it'll be enough to balance it out soon!

I'm trying to figure out what way to do the probiotics. Its one scoop per 200ml and a feed is usually 5ml or there abouts. I've just been adding a weeeeee smidge.

I'm embarrassed to say i was letting her eat buttercup which ive just read is bad so i hope i havent accidently killed by poisoning!

I got up at 4am to feed Bellatrix and she took minimal amounts, and unfortunately died shortly after. She just couldn't fight any more. She died with milk in her belly and in a warm bed. RIP my little warrior  crying

Thank you to everyone who helped me over the past few days, she would have died long before this without your help.

That is so sad!
This is what always destroys me with rescues. You both fight for days to get them strong enough but then it just doesn't work out. At least she was warm and had you had tried what you could.
RIP baby Bellatrix

Oh Noooooooooooooo  crying

Hayley I'm so sorry - you fought so hard and so did Bellatrix. The trauma of her injuries must have just too much for such a little thing to overcome.

Rest in Peace little bunny, you and Hayley did your utmost to overcome fearful odds but it was not to be.
