Good Canine Companion
Our school is having a Good Canine Companion assessment on the 11th of October. I've entered Spike and Axel. It's similar to the Canine Good Citizen tests but with a few a few things added and left out.
Xan did his 2 years ago.
Loads of work to do and so little time to do it. I have to work on longer down stays and getting Axel to go over a jump away from me reliably. Great fun!
I'll enter Lequita in the next one as she's not ready yet.

It's fun. Everyone gets a prize for entering and we have a party. That said scoring is very strict. If a dog doesn't do something you get a 'not ready' and you fail the test but your dog doesn't have to sit straight or walk tight like in formal Obedience.

Thank you.
It's good (and nice) to have something to work towards, specially the non-competitive people that just want a nice companion. It gives you something to measure yourself and your dogs progress against.

Re: Good Canine Companion
Basically a week left till the test and Spike has decided that he prefers to jump back and forth over the jump; instead of going around.
He's so fast. I'm going to try running towards the jump at an angle so he is sort of pointing towards the end when he goes over.
If he doesn't do the jump correctly he fails the whole test
They're always coming up with clever little schemes these brats of mine.

Re: Good Canine Companion
So with Axel injured I'm taking Xan again. He scored 24/25 last time so he can enter again to get a perfect score. Cross you fingers as I've really neglected his training over the last few months because he's basically retired.
