Poor Dempsey! :(

Once again, he's eaten something he shouldn't have. He got into my bedroom yesterday, while I was at university, and ate two pairs of underwear.

Luckily, as he's done this so often before, we're used to it and know how to react. At the moment, we're keeping a very careful eye on him. He's got a bit of a bad stomach, but he'd had that anyway, due to an earlier incident a couple of weeks ago, when he swallowed some of his bedding fibres. If it looks like he's losing his appetite at all or he stops passing stools, he'll be off down to the vets, just in case.

For now, I've given him castor oil, which he loved, and he'll be having tinned pumpkin later. He's currently curled up under his blankets on the sofa, with the electric fire on.

Sod's law, really, as I always keep underwear off of my floor, just in case he gets in there. Yesterday morning, I was so frazzled and stressed, I forgot to pick them up and put them back in my drawer after I'd been rummaging through it.

My sister's Labradoodle has done the same with her knicks a couple of times. He usually poos them out or vomits. Dirty dog! Hope Dempsey feels better soon.

It is very worrying when our daft doggies swallow something stupid, as being hard-wired scavengers they will do upon occasion.

Oh Dempsey!

Pugsley will chew any of my clothes in the sweaty patches. He does it because of his insane separation issues. Makes me want to murder him some days!

Nuisance dogs!

Feel quite bad for him at the moment. A vet visit has been discussed, if he hasn't improved by the weekend. His appetite is as voracious as ever, so we're not too worried at the moment, but he is feeling very sorry for himself.

If he starts vomiting I would panic.

I would be quite pleased if he vomits - they might come up with it!!!

Dogs can be such vile disgusting creatures some days.

1st thing the vet would do is try to make him vomit in the hope he throws them up. If they don't come out one end ir the other... that aint good.

Mums dog ate a rat poison sack that needed to come out VERY quickly, the vet put a pill under her lower eyelid (yes, thats what i said. a pill in her eye) I would have to ask what it was but within 2 mins she violently threw up the sack & after getting over the violence of her immediate  vomiting she was saved from a lingering death.

Many dogs swallow underwear but it has to come out quickly. They can die from it if it obstructs their bowels. If you know for sure he has swallowed it I'd be at the vets now.

There's not much point rushing him to the vets straight away, as he's done this numerous times before and has always passed them (one way or another). There isn't anything that distresses Dempsey more than the vets, so we always keep an eye on him until we feel that he needs to go to a vet.

If it has formed an obstruction, it will most likely have formed between the stomach and intestine, rather than in the lower intestines. In which case, it will most likely be thrown back up. If he loses his appetite, stops drinking, stops defecating or shows signs of discomfort, he'll be up to the vets.

My mums Great Dane, Blade, was always eating socks, dish towels, slippers. We would sometimes not even notice till you found it in his stool or had to pull it out the bunghole.

Yuck!

That's usually how we find out that Demps has eaten underwear, as well.

tbh if the castor oil has by-passed the "foreign body" and exited along with everything but, and he's still feeling sorry for himself, personally I would escalate matters. Isn't it sod's law that these things always happen at weekends.

Ingested fabric will usually take up to a week to pass through a dog's system. The castor oil just helps to smooth it along and helps food get past.

He's perked up a lot this evening and his belly isn't as bloated, so I think it's working its way through!

So... I owe Dempsey an apology! I just found the two pairs on underwear, exactly where I left them - folded on the shelf, so that he couldn't get them.

Bit worried, though, as I have no idea what's causing his bad stomach! Hope he didn't eat something else while he was in my room! Although he passed out some of his bedding in his stool the day before the 'underwear incident', so it could be that making its way out of his system.

Duh - so Dempsey isn't a knicker nicker after all and his insides are as pure as the driven snow!
