Please meet Roxy 2 ½ year old Lab x Collie that is the cuddly bear. She was handed into rescue through no fault of her own when her owners moved overseas. If there is one thing that makes Roxy happy its affection. She thinks she is a lap dog and loves to climb on to your lap and be stroked. If she can’t get onto your lap she is quite content to rest her head on your leg with her tail wagging her happiness on the floor. Don’t try to ignore her as she will poke you with her little paw until you give in and give her cuddles.
Roxy even shows love to her toys and will make a little pile of them to curl up with and baby.
Roxy loves to play with her tennis ball and very much enjoys playing catch, she doesn’t always bring the ball back as its much more fun to wiggle happily with the prize in her mouth. Her recall is excellent - especially for a treat - and she does a very nice 'sit'. When told to walk to heel she will.
Roxy is a very loyal girl and sometimes gets things wrong. She protects her family by woofing at the window of the house and in the car when people pass by, it’s completely harmless but does surprise unwitting passersby. She has been in kennels for a while now, which isn’t really very good for her. She may bark at the gate but once out and about on her lead she is a typical bouncy, lively collie cross.
Roxy is fine being left alone and happily settles with her toys for a snooze for a few hours.
When Roxy came into rescue she was quite overweight and had been fed on a diet not appropriate for dogs. As a result she wasn’t very well but her weight is now reduced and now she is fit and well and ready to find her forever home.
Roxy doesn't like to travel. She was transported quite a long distance from her home into rescue and it unsettled her. She tends to spin around and woof in distress in the car so we would want her adopters to avoid car travel as much as possible or begin with very small car trips to slowly reassure her and get her used to travelling.
Roxy is looking for an active home. We would recommend that she is homed as an only dog. Because Roxy is so loving she finds it hard to share her owners love with other dogs and can become quite bossy to make sure she is the only one getting pats. She would be best rehomed with an experienced owner who understands collie traits and is willing to work with her. She would probably suit a couple in early retirement who would be able to take her for long walks to run off her energy but would be home a lot of the time to give her the time and affection she craves. She has the potential to be an extremely loving and loyal dog.
Roxy currently in kennels in South Wales and as with all adoptions we expect any potential home to visit her in her there. Roxy is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.
