Dempsey's Kool Collar - Page 2 Empty Dempsey's Kool Collar

Post by Caryll Sun Jun 01, 2014 9:37 am

First topic message reminder :

Dempsey's Kool Collar arrived a couple of days ago but the weather was atrocious so we couldn't use it.

However, it is really warm today & I took Dempsey on his favourite walk over Bradlaugh Fields. He came back very hot indeed, so I thought I'd give his collar a try. Within about 1-2 minutes he had stopped panting and was lying very comfortably indeed, so very impressed!

A big  thumbs up

If you move up to SA's Northern borders we easily get 48 degrees in summer. It's to hot to think.

I don't know how people on the equator survive.

Dogs do acclimatise. Mine only stretch out on the tiles if we get up to about 30. That's a hot day for them.

In summer a 23 - 28 degree day is beautiful, under that is cold, over that it starts heating up.

(Im so off topic but..) geez... 28 is lovely for us in summer. Not even warm enough for me to go swiming though many do. I thought you would have our heat, but your near cape town? The coast?
30c is a nice warm day here but when it hits 40-48c thats fire weather at my house. Lower temps for the bush. I watch the yard for spot fires.

Yeah sorry for the off topic... I'm about 3 hours from Cape Town. We're pretty far south so the Antarctic help cool us down.
I have to add that here in Albertinia it can get into the lower 40's but that happens infrequently.

We have 17-30c overnight in summer! (Mainly around 18-20c) &if we get a sun shower for 10 mins we are all so happy till the humidity gets us!

I'd die if it was only 5c in summer! Thats freezing here IN WINTER!!!

We don't get exceptionally hot weather over here, but we more than make up for it with our cold-ish weather in the winter and early spring. Last March, it got to about -15C when I was on my duties. worried When I went round the chicken pales to melt the frozen-solid drinking water, it froze again within a couple of minutes.

Plus, yeah, the rain! I love it! laughing We get downpours for days on end, but it isn't as bad as some countries with their monsoon seasons.

It gets a lot worse than that in some countries, but it practically brings England to a standstill! laughing Our worst part is the snow and ice during winter. England is never properly prepared with grit, salt and the like.

I was out in that -15 though and I'm glad I don't live somewhere colder! laughing During duties, I couldn't wear gloves, scarves, hats, etc., as they pose a risk to the animals. It was a nightmare! Didn't help that the protective clothing had short sleeves! The boots were also steel toe capped, so they were freezing!

Oh I know it gets much colder &wetter in other places, ( where I wouldnt live till hell freezes over) but I am surprised your summer is so cold. Seriously,  that's our winter.

When we have 10c on a winter's day... scarves, jackets, thick socks &beanies abound! Thats a cold day!

Summer usually starts later than it's supposed to here! laughing We're barely into late spring/early summer right now! The spring and summer storms are building up now though, which is great! happy

laughing At 10C, we wear coats, but not usually any other winter wear.

At 10 degrees I'm wearing my thermal vest, 2 jerseys, a tracksuit top and my thick padded jacket with a wool scarf and gloves.
Thermal leggings, long socks jeans and boots or my all terrain water proof cross trainers.

I often feel sorry for imported dogs. It must be a massive shock to go from England or Germany to here or Australia and vice versa. Xan would probably never again come out from under the duvet if he had to go to England.
